Well I was going to wait about a week for this but, eh screw it, It's fresh in my head and other than the 11th doctor(and I do plan to do a dr.who season 5 retrosective/review next, as well as a best of the season, but for now....) this is all I got. Basically, last week on wedsday while I was eagarly awaitng volume 6's arivval on thrusday, my brother showed me that while he was at the comic shop, he picked us up some tickets for an advanced screening of Scott Pilgrim VS the World. Given the fact i'm a HUGE Scott Pilgrim fan, I was obviously excited. But I've decided to also cover the madness before I actually saw the movie, the couple of hours that it took to get to it. So without further rigamarole, Geronimo!
So after my brother, his girlfriend and their freidn and I left, we took about an hour or less getting there. Then once we got there, we ran to the target so their freind could get some food. Then we all found out afterwords that we couldn't even get in until 6:30.
Then we sat. and sat. and sat. and sat. and... well you get the idea. Acually I crouched but semanitcs. Eventually we got in, and then waited some more. and waited and waited. and... again you get the idea. So theire we sat, and after some polite conversation, things got quite so I scrounged up a free Zuma demo on my phone.
Soon after that the only trailer finally played in the packed theater. And I was legetimatly freaked by it at first. It was a tense thriller of 5 people stuck in a elevator, wondering which among them was the cause. Then my fears were cured when I saw the director:M.Night Shamalan. Then I laughed, and so did everyone else. Oh and you wanna know the title? Devil. I"m dead serious. And I thought basterdising avatar:the last airbender was as low as he could go, but no just when you think he can't sink any lower he suprises you.
So now after all that unesccary intro stuff it's time for the actual review. For those who do not know of the graphic novel series the movies based on or have seen the trailer allow me to give you the gist: Scott Pilgrim is a 22 year old slacker who finds his dream girl in american delivery girl Ramona Flowers. Theres just one tiny catch:to be with her he has to defeat her 7 evil exes. Simple as that. Now as for what I thought of the movie, It kicked ass! Edgar Wright totally got the sprit of the graphic novels down pat and did everything right. He basiaclly started with the first volume verbatim and part of the second and then proceedes to take the best bits from 2 and 3, as well as tiny snips and snaps of 4,5, and 6 into a story all it's own, yet still true to the books. The casting was spot on, all of the actors matched their charicters perfectly. My faviorite though was Christopher Evans as Lucas Lee, Ramona's second evil ex and an actor, who just hams it up, and exploits the actor thing for all it's worth. The Music was also killer, and while i didn't really have a sound in my head when I read the books, the music was exaclty what it should be.
So overall would I recommend the movie to fellow scotaholics when it comes out in 2 weeks. Hell Yes. As I said the first volumes in there virbeatm, and everything added does not distract from the sprit of the graphic novels that's still present. And as for the people who never read the graphic novels? Still yes. It's hilarious, entertaining, and I forogot to mention but the fight scenes are just awesome. So check it out in two weeks, on August 13th, you won't regret it. So until next time:Courage
